Karina Cheung
MSW | RSW | Psychotherapist
I am a social worker registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto, with a specialization in Mental Health and Health, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
Emotions are not problems to solve, but experiences to be understood. People grow not by avoiding their feelings, but by walking gently alongside them. My approach is holistic, collaborative, and empowering. I strive to create a warm and welcoming space where clients can explore their emotions, thoughts, and lived experiences.I integrate techniques from various modalities to help clients foster self-understanding with compassion and discover their strengths. Together, we build resilience in navigating life’s challenges and identify meaning and goals that align with their values and preferences
I have extensive experience supporting children, youth, adults, families, newcomers, and refugees across school, hospital, community, and private practice settings. My work includes individual counselling, parental coaching, and the facilitation of psychoeducational and support groups.
Having worked in a palliative care unit and community hospice, I have a particular focus on supporting individuals and families through grief and bereavement. I am also passionate about supporting clients experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment difficulties, caregiver burnout, challenges with emotional regulation, and neurodivergence, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
